Mayo Women’s Support Service (MWSS) are currently taking part in a nationwide campaign which was initiated by SAFE Ireland and launched by Ryan Tubridy in November 2012. It is called Man Up and is an invitation to men and women to address, support and speak out on the issue of violence against women and children. MWSS intends to take the campaign to all parts of Mayo during 2013, starting in Castlebar in April.

“There is an urgent need for women to learn more about the risks to their health from diabetes,” says local heart and stroke charity Croí. Young women who are planning a pregnancy and who currently have diabetes need to take special steps to protect their health and that of their baby. Equally as many as 12 per cent of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes, which if not managed, can have adverse effects on the health of both the mother and the baby.
