Westport Chamber Music Festival is ready to entertain

his year’s Westport Festival of Chamber Music takes place in Westport House on Friday September 9 at 8pm, and on Saturday September 10 at 12 noon, 8pm, and 10.30pm in the Town Hall Theatre. It will come to a close on Sunday September 11 at 3pm in Holy Trinity Church. The three venues are ideal for chamber music, providing intimate acoustic experiences. Artistic director Hugh Tinney said: “Our Westport Festival has grown in the past three years into a cultural event that fits seamlessly into the Westport autumn, yet with an atmosphere and a following all of its own. Everything plays its part in this collaborative sharing between musicians, audience members, venues, organisers and other local supporters.”

The Custom House Studios located at the Quay in Westport will be embracing Culture Night which takes place around the country on Friday September 16. Over the course of the night, there will be eight different events taking place in the Custom House Studio where all strands of culture will be celebrated.
At 6.30pm, Banna Píob Chuan Modh who were established in October 2010 with a view to setting up a pipe band in the Clew Bay Area will kick things off. From 6pm to 10pm the studio's gallery will be open and at 7pm there will be a gallery talk and painting demo by artist Deirdre Walsh, whose exhibition Silent Notes is currently running in the studio.

Ballina town centre is set to rock on Saturday night week, August 27 when Irish rock legends The Stunning come to town as part of the inaugural French Mayo Festival. The culmination of the two-day festival, billed as "A Taste of France Along the Wild Atlantic Way", the gig will see Steve and Joe Wall's band headline the first live music event to be held under the new state-of-the-art cover provided by Mayo County Council for Ballina's historic Military Quarter.

More than 500 Irish musicians, singers, and dancers are expected to take over the numerous venues in Ballina and its surrounding towns for the six day Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week-long family friendly festival will feature a whole host of award winning performers involved in 10 key events and a further 60 fringe events, and is expected to attract some 50,000 visitors. The unique celebration featuring performers from Mayo and Manchester is launched on Friday July 29 with a special live two hour radio broadcast by Midwest Radio from Bar Square in Ballina. The free event will feature a host of VIPs and performers and runs from 6pm to 8pm.
