A 200-year-old courtyard at Westport House built by the 2nd Marquess of Sligo will be transformed into a state-of-the-art drive-in movie theatre for a series of screenings of classic movies as part of the Westport Arts Festival. This year there are 10 feature films on show so there is definitely something for everyone, from the epic western Once Upon a Time in the West to the equally epic science fiction spectacular 2001: A Space Odyssey. For the romantics there will be the timeless Casablanca and perennial favourite Dirty Dancing.

Tomorrow night September 17 the 20th anniversary IMRO Showcase tour comes to Bar Ritz (Mulroys Bar) in Castlebar in association with Finbar Hoban Presents. On the night expect to see Limerick group Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters along with Race The Flux, local Castlebar band New Sunset Hotel and Pearse McLoughlin entertain the crowds at Bar Ritz all for a price of €5. The annual tour shines a very bright spotlight on Ireland’s best new music talent. IMRO showcases Ireland’s most exciting emerging acts at the best Irish venues across the country. This year saw a record breaking response to the call for entries, with more than 600 submissions made from young Irish acts hoping to take part in the tour. After much serious deliberation, IMRO has announced the dates, venues, and line-ups for the 2011 IMRO Showcase Tour.

This Saturday night, The Rendezvous in Balla will be rocking to the sounds of Drunken Monkies from 10.30pm. The band which is made up of David Gunnigan, Dónal and Eoghan Walsh, will be banging out the hits until closing time in one of Balla’s most famous establishments. The Latin Quarter Galway has announced details of Guinness Live, a new music festival for Galway. It will take place from Thursday September 22 until Sunday September 25, and will feature an extensive line-up of national and local acts in a series of intimate gigs in venues and pubs throughout the city’s Latin Quarter, with 50 live performances over four nights. Admission to all gigs is free and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guinness Live is a four day festival, which incorporates Arthur’s Day and the Oyster Festival and looks set to be a great weekend for the city of Galway with some of the finest original talent in Ireland ranging from high profile acts such as Republic of Loose, Duke Special, Whipping Boy, Jerry Fish, Tucan, and Noelie McDonnell to some of the most exciting new sounds around including The Riptide Movement, The Original Rudeboys, The Debutantes, and The Temporary. The event features many of Galway’s finest bands playing a wide range of popular, rock, and traditional music.
