Castlebar celebrates Arthur’s Day with Tolsters Tapas and Critters

In the year 1759, Arthur Guinness signs a 9,000-year lease on a disused brewery at St James’s Gate, Dublin, including water rights. To the delight of many, Arthur begins brewing porter and ale. And now, world-wide, each year, the remarkable legacy of Arthur Guinness, the creator of Guinness, is celebrated at 17.59pm, and this year it is Thursday next September 22.

Join the countdown at Tolsters Bar, Spencer Street, Castlebar, starting at 17.29 sharp. Don’t miss the Tolsters tapas - free to all - tasty Kelly’s of Newport Black Pudding with a white head, with luscious relish and dressings, served tapas-style. And a free pint to Arthur’s first 12 apostles. Just after the countdown, make way for the Critters - of the Clew Bay variety who will be playing bluegrass and folk from this very popular group The Clewbay Critters from 6pm to 8pm.

“We’re starting the celebrations early, said Gerry Tolster. “It means that people can come here straight after work, have a few pints, and free bites, enjoy the music and go home early. So if you feel like celebrating Arthur’s legacy, listening to some fantastic music while enjoying a few early pints served by the stout barmen, in an intimate setting, head for Tolsters for 5.29pm, when the countdown will begin.
