Boll weekend to be opened by German Ambassador

The annual Heinrich Boll memorial weekend will be taking place over the weekend of Friday, May 4 to Sunday May 6 at the Cyril Gray memorial hall, Dugort, Achill. The event will be launched by the recently appointed German Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Eckhar Lubkemeir in the Cyril Gray hall on Friday, May 4 at 7.30pm.

This May are you ready for the legendary Billy Ocean

Billy Ocean is the biggest black recording star Britain has ever produced, having sold more than 30 million records in his lifetime. Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records, for which his second single was the Motown-ish ‘Love Really Hurts Without You’, which reached number two in the UK charts and number 12 in the US. On Bank Holiday Sunday May 6 he will be taking to the stage in the Royal Theatre Castlebar, with tickets costing €33.20 and the show starting at 8.30pm.

St Gerald’s College hosts art exhibition and music recital at the Linenhall

St Gerald’s College Music Department recently staged their second spring recital in the Linenhall Arts Centre. Following the success of last year in the school, it was thought to move to a proper concert setting of the Linenhall Arts Centre. Some 60 sang, played, and danced to a full house.

Bayley is ready to blaze into Castlebar

Ex-Iron Maiden front-man Blaze Bayley and his band will be making their way to Castlebar this May where he will performing at Castlebar’s new independent music venue The Clubhouse. Blaze Bayley started his musical career as the lead vocalist of Wolfsbane. When Bruce Dickinson departed heavy metal band Iron Maiden in 1993, Blaze Bayley was chosen as his replacement. Blaze recorded two albums with Iron Maiden in the nineties that included The X Factor and Virtual X1. Following Blaze Bayley's departure from Iron Maiden 1999, he formed his own band, BLAZE. In 2000 the band released their debut studio album Silicon Messiah.

Thrill on the Hill official launch tomorrow night

Do you want to become a world record breaker, have a great day out and learn to dance like Michael Jackson while you're at it? Thrill on the Hill, in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Respiratory Unit in Mayo General Hospital, will take place on June 3 2012 in McHale Park, Castlebar. The event will be officially launched in Breaffy House Resort this coming Saturday night, March 17 (St Patrick’s Day) at 8pm. Music will be provided by the Hebe Jebies Band and there will be a dancing demonstration by the Mayo Dance Factory. Admission is €10 and it will all go to the Cystic Fibrosis building fund at Mayo General Hospital.
