Notification has been issued from Castlebar District Court this week that the licensing of auctioneers and house agents will no longer be carried out by the Courts Service and Revenue Commissioners but will come under the remit of the newly established Property Services Regulation Authority.

The Government is paralysed by the scale of the mortgage crisis and is failing to help families in difficulty in a comprehensive way, according to Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary. The Central Bank has confirmed that 77,630 or 10.2 per cent of all private residential mortgages are now in arrears of more than 90 days.

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed the decision to give the green light to the proposal by Ballina Chamber to open a year-round tourist office in Ballina and the awarding of funding of €5,000 to help in its operation. The new tourist office, located on Pearse Street in the heart of the town, replaces the seasonal office which had operated for about six months each year from premises on Cathedral Road which was more off the beaten track.
