Thousands of new training places for long-term unemployed

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony, has welcomed the announcement that free educating and training places are being provided for up 6,500 people who are long-term unemployed. The Momentum programme is a Government initiative, which has been launched by the Minister for Education, Ruairí Quinn, and the Minister of State for Training and Skills, Ciarán Cannon.

GMIT Innovation Centres going from strength to strength

More than 200 jobs have been created by client companies of the Innovation in Business Centres (IiBC) in GMIT Castlebar and Galway with some 90 being created in Mayo since the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC) at GMIT Castlebar opened its doors six years ago (2006). The IiBC at GMIT offers desk space, office space, and virtual space to new start-up companies and also runs enterprise programmes funded by various enterprise agencies.

Mayo company awarded NSAI certification

Mayo Medtech company shortlisted for the 2012 Medical Technology Industry Excellence Awards

Mayo Medtech company Hollister has been shortlisted for the Irish Medical Technology Company of the Year 2012. The Medical Technology Industry Excellence Awards are jointly hosted by Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, and IMDA. Eight companies have been shortlisted, four for the Company of the Year Award and four for the Emerging Company of the Year Award. The winners will be announced next Thursday, December 13, at an event in Galway. Hollister is an independent, employee-owned global company that develops, manufactures, and markets healthcare products and services world-wide. The company’s global headquarters are in Libertyville, Illinois, 40 miles north of downtown Chicago.

Commenting on the shortlist, Andrew Vogelaar, Head of IDA’s Medtech Division said ‘The medical technology sector in Ireland has been leaping up the charts: It now employs around 25,000 people directly and exports are on the increase. Seventeen of the world’s top 25 companies have operations here and I am delighted that DePuy, Lake Region, Stryker, and Hollister have been shortlisted for the company of the year award.”
