Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Jobs Dara Calleary has said the OECD report published must wake the government up from its complacency over the jobs crisis, in particular the deeply worrying levels of long-term unemployment and youth unemployment.
“In recent weeks ministers have been repeatedly congratulating themselves on the rise in employment reported by the Quarterly National Household Survey. However they conveniently ignored the warning from the CSO that a significant part of the reported increase may not reflect any actual real new jobs,” said Deputy Calleary.

The symposium hosted by the Brehon Law Society of Philadelphia with the support of Mayo County Council and the Western Development Commission will run from September 25 through 27 including a Gala dinner evening with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny as special guest of honour . The two day symposium will see a mix of Irish and American lawyers, business consultants and businesses operating in both Ireland and the United States come together to address topics which are essential for international business exchange between both countries.

The official launch of Meetwest 2013 took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Regional Training Centre of Mayo County Council offices Castlebar. The two day business networking forum takes place on November 21 and 22 at Knockranny House Hotel.
The event is being organised by the Mayo Enterprise and Investment unit in conjunction with Mayo County Council, Galway City and County Councils, Roscommon County Council, Roscommon and Galway County and City Enterprise Boards.

The third annual US/Ireland Legal Symposium of the Brehon Law Society was officially launched last week by the Western Development Commission and Mayo County Council on behalf of the Brehon Law Society of Philadelphia in the presence of Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, former UN high commissioner for human rights, and current UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa.
Taking place in Westport on September 25 to 27 the symposium is being hosted by the Brehon Law Society of Philadelphia with the support of the Western Development Commission and Mayo County Council. Attendees will include Irish and American lawyers, business consultants, and business people operating in both Ireland and the United States. The theme of the symposium is Doing Business in the US/ Ireland / Europe—Critical Legal Issues for US and Irish Companies.

Female entrepreneurs in Ireland are becoming more optimistic about the growth of their businesses. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report for 2012 report shows that the number of female early stage entrepreneurs who expect to have at least 10 employed people within five years has almost doubled to 23 per cent. Conversely, the percentage of male entrepreneurs expecting to have at least 10 jobs within five years has dropped from 36 to 27 per cent.
Women across County Mayo are being encouraged and assisted by Mayo County Enterprise Board to start their own business, in an effort to increase the number of female entrepreneurs in Ireland, which is currently around half the rate of male entrepreneur start-ups.
