An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, recently launched a great new Mayo based business called Tellmystorybook.ie in the Castlebar Library We asked the owner of the business, Eoin Heverin, to tell us more about Tellmystorybook.ie who make unique personalised children's books. "What makes our books unique is that every page of every book is specially printed using a picture of the child. We superimpose a photograph of the child's head on to the character in our books. When the child sees that they are the character in their very own story, their reactions are priceless!

Lidl Ireland gives customers in Mayo the chance to win their Christmas shopping

For the festive season ahead, Lidl Ireland is offering customers in Mayo a chance to win their entire Christmas shopping. Since the start of November, tickets for Lidl’s nationwide Trolley Dash have gone on sale for just €1. Winners will be challenged Supermarket Sweep style to dash around Lidl and grab as much of their Christmas shopping as possible in just two minutes! One hundred per cent of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Lidl’s charity partner, Barretstown.

Last year, Lidl’s Christmas Trolley Dash raised €135,000 and tickets sales are expected to increase even more this year. Tickets will be sold at checkouts nationwide until Sunday December 6. Customers can enter as many times as they like and one winner will be chosen at random from each of Lidl’s 144 stores including all its Mayo stores. The Christmas Trolley Dash will take place in every Lidl store on Saturday December 12 and December 19 at 8am.

Mayo based company celebrates business award

Mayo based company Team Horizon is celebrating success following the Connacht final of the Ulster Bank Business Achievers Awards. The awards, which took place last month at The Meyrick Hotel, Galway, saw seven other Connacht businesses selected as winners. The eight winners will now progress to the national final in December to compete with winners from Munster, Leinster, and Ulster.

Network Mayo has announced details of its November event – Speed Networking with communications and marketing professional Sandra Hart. This is a members only event and offers a great opportunity for the Network Mayo membership to gather, learn how to network effectively from one of Ireland’s leading networking facilitators, and to put that into practice with fellow members.

Sandra Hart is an executive director of BNI (Business Network International), the largest business referral organisation in the world. She is also a member of Network Mayo and was one of the organisers of the hugely successful Network Ireland conference which took place in Knockranny House Hotel in September. A guiding force in the development of her region spanning 19 counties of Ireland, her focus is on supporting more than 700 companies. From her base in Mayo she leads a team who facilitate, mentor, and train business professionals on how to network effectively, build business relationships, and generate referrals.

Mayo retailers continue to be at the forefront of driving customer excellence in Ireland with two of the county’s leading home and garden stores recognised at the Retail Excellence Ireland Awards 2016 in association with Barclaycard. Following hundreds of entries Retail Excellence Ireland awarded the best in class winners in key sector groups with Mayo retailers cleaning up, including Horkans Garden and Lifestyle Centre, Castlebar, winning Best National Garden Centre Store 2016 and Homeland, Swinford, winning Best DIY and Agri Store 2016.

Mayo County Council attends innovative tourism workshop in Dublin

Fifty Irish tourism enterprises, including Mayo County Council, got together at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, for an innovative workshop organised by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. The event – titled “Have you a story to tell?” – explored how tourism businesses around the country could generate more international publicity and social media exposure for themselves, and for Ireland, and ultimately increase overseas tourism business in 2016 and beyond.

Peter Mark Castlebar to raise funds for vital work of Aware

Pyjama parties, bake sales and fancy dress. It is that time of year again. The annual Petermarkathon fundraiser is back and coming to Peter Mark, Castlebar, from Friday October 23 to Monday October 26. This year the Peter Mark team will aim to raise much needed funds for Aware, and specifically its work supporting and educating teenagers about looking after their mental health.

Beat the Blues is a programme delivered free of charge by Aware each year to some 30,000 students aged from 15 to 18 years with a view to empowering this vulnerable group to help them understand how to look after their mental health and deal with everyday concerns before they spiral out of control.
