Mayo natives Harry Hughes (Portwest) and Niall McGarry (Maximum Media/JOE Media) have been shortlisted for 2017 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year programme. The shortlist of 24 finalists in the 2017 EY Entrepreneur Of The YearTM (EOY) programme was revealed this week, representing entrepreneurial businesses across the island of Ireland in a range of sectors including technology, healthcare, FMCG, and retail.

Enterprise Ireland announces €750,000 in start-up funding for female entrepreneurs

Enterprise Ireland’s €750,000 Competitive Start Fund (CSF) for female entrepreneurs has just opened. Up to €50,000 in equity funding is available to a maximum of 15 successful female applicants with early stage start-up companies. Last year, one in three companies who received CSF investment from Enterprise Ireland were female-led.

As well as securing up to €50k in funding, 10 of the successful applicants will also have the opportunity to participate in Dublin BIC’s INNOVATE accelerator programme. Delivered over a 12-week period in the Guinness Enterprise Centre, the interactive INNOVATE programme will increase the capabilities of the participants and move them to investor-ready within a short period.

The Sage 50 (certified by QQI Level 5) will run for five days, commencing on Thursday, April 25, in Castlebar. Learners will experience setting up a company, entering source documents in the various day book and preparing debtors and creditor’s balances and reports. Learners will learn to produce VAT reports, bank reconciliation, and monthly profit and loss and balance sheet reports.

Deadline approaching for Network Mayo’s discounted early bird membership

Anyone considering joining Network Mayo, Mayo’s business networking group for women, can avail of a 10 per cent discount off the annual membership fee until Monday March 20. Membership is now open for 2017 and anyone interested in joining can email [email protected] to request an application form. Annual membership costs €125. Customers of AIB, Network Ireland’s national sponsor, also receive a 10 per cent discount (only one discount allowed per member).

Already this year Network Mayo has welcomed almost 80 women and men to its events. While membership of the organisation is only open to women, men are always welcome at events. The first event in January was a team building through bowling night hosted by Mayo Leisure Point and provided a great opportunity for members and interested parties to meet, chat, and have a lot of fun.

Boost to local economy thanks to clever business networking

€5 million has been generated by local business people in Mayo as a result of effective business networking. The St Colman's BNI group who meet locally in Claremorris every Tuesday morning in the McWilliam Park Hotel is made up of 23 business people who work together to build the local economy. The St Colman's BNI group supports more than 100 jobs locally with this set to grow in the coming months with new business wins among members.

The St Colman's chapter has a wide variety of local business people including a photographer, a physical therapist, a restaurant owner, and a a painter and decorator. The diversity of the businesses involved is what has helped with the chapter's success.

More than five hundred .ie domains registered in Mayo last year

Last year 523 .ie domain names were registered in Mayo, a 12 per cent decrease on the number in 2015. The latest figures were released by IE Domain Registry (IEDR) in its latest annual report. IEDR is responsible for maintaining Ireland's code domain name extension, the .ie you see at the end of a web address.
