Already this year Network Mayo has welcomed almost 80 women and men to its events. While membership of the organisation is only open to women, men are always welcome at events. The first event in January was a team building through bowling night hosted by Mayo Leisure Point and provided a great opportunity for members and interested parties to meet, chat, and have a lot of fun.

The second event 'Be so different, you have no competition – how to make 2017 your best year ever’ was presented by renowned motivational speaker and author Gerry Duffy, a former chain smoker who went from being four stone overweight to running 32 marathons in 32 consecutive days.

This year, headed by president Orla Cunningham of All in Design and Print, the calendar includes events around health and wellness, business and finance, motivation events, and much more ensuring there is something for everyone. “The highlight of the Mayo calendar, as always will be the annual summer business lunch and awards in the Lodge at Ashford Castle in June. Winners, who must be branch members, go forward to represent themselves, their businesses, and the Mayo branch at the National Awards in October,” explained Ms Cunningham. “The awards are open to new businesses, established businesses, and employees,” she added.

“Since getting involved with Network I’ve had so many opportunities present themselves to me, I’ve made a lot of worthwhile contacts and attended some fantastic events. I’m delighted to be heading up the Mayo branch this year and would welcome any woman into the branch who is looking to expand her business network.”

Network Mayo is a branch of Network Ireland, a progressive, dynamic, organisation supporting the professional and personal development of women. Membership is made up of a very diverse group of women, from budding entrepreneurs, SME owners, professionals, and leaders in indigenous and multinational organisations to non-profits, charities, arts, and the public sector. The organisation has a strong voice and is interested in promoting diversity and equality, entrepreneurship and leadership development; collaborating with like-minded people and organisations.

Established in 1983, Network Ireland has more than 500 members, with eight very dynamic branches across Ireland. Through the branch network in excess of 100 events take place annually for like-minded people to get together to collaborate, share ideas, knowledge, and support - most of which are free to members. Network Ireland also runs a number of flagship national events, including an International Women’s Day celebration and the annual conference and business awards.

After a hiatus of a number of years, the Mayo branch was revived in 2009 and has since gone from strength to strength, each year attracting new and fresh faces. It was home to the 2015 national president Olwen Dawe, and the national conference was held in the beautiful setting of Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, in September 2015 as the Mayo branch played host to some 200 Network Ireland delegates in what was a most memorable conference.
