Jim Higgins MEP, a member of the European Parliament's Transport Committee, has expressed disappointment at Ryanair's decision to impose an additional €2 levy on customers, which the airline has said is a means of recouping revenue lost due to travel disruption caused by heavy winter snow.

Connacht Gold to invest €1.5m in Westport

Just two weeks after it opened the doors to its newly redeveloped Swinford store, Connacht Gold has announced that it will begin the expansion and upgrade of its Westport DIY and Garden Centre in May. A total of €1.5 million will be invested in the project by Connacht Gold and it will result in the creation of four to six new jobs for the town.

InterTradeIreland is holding a two-day workshop in the Harlequin Hotel in Castlebar on April 13 and 27 to help local companies compete for Government contracts across the island.

Mayo companies are being encouraged by InterTradeIreland to tap into the public sector market across the island – which has a requirement for goods and services estimated to be worth over €13 billion each year. The cross-border body is holding a two-day Go-2Tender workshop to help firms increase their chances of success when competing for public sector contracts North and South.

Mayo, the only region in Ireland where hotel prices increased last year

Hotel prices in Mayo increased three per cent in 2010 according to the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI). The average price for a hotel room in Mayo in 2010 was €81 per night compared to €78 in 2009. This increase makes Mayo the only place in Ireland to see its room rates go up in 2010.
