Castlebar and Westport Tidy Towns thank poster free candidates
Castlebar and Westport Tidy Towns groups came together this week to thank those local and European Election candidates who have gone poster free during the election campaign. Both towns have had initiatives to ensure the town is free from posters and the associated litter and environmental damage they bring with them.
Westport named Ireland's Tidiest Large Town
There was cause for celebration for Westport today (Monday, September 25) when it was named as Ireland's Tidiest Large Town at the 2017 Tidy Town Awards, which were announced in the The Helix in Dublin. Westport's Pat Scahill was also named as the winner of the Overall National Hero Awards at the ceramony.
Westport gears up for national Tidy Towns conference
Westport is no stranger to success at national Tidy Towns awards over the years, and next weekend, Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, the town will host the 2017 National Tidy Towns Conference. The conference is a unique opportunity for Tidy Towns groups around the country to learn from and share their experiences with other Tidy Towns communities nationwide. There will also be guidance on the preparation for the 2017 competition and it will feature three lectures from three national tidy town adjudicators.
Westport claims TidyTowns large town award
Westport was named Ireland's tidiest large town on Monday at the annual national TidyTowns Awards ceremony which was held in the Helix in Dublin. In total, Westport scored 322 marks, just one behind the overall winner Letterkenny. There were other award wins for Westport on the day, with Nicoal Sammon winning a Junior Community Hero award and the Edible Landscape Project in the town winning the Sustainable Development Award.
