The 2012 St Patrick’s Day parade will take place in Westport on Saturday March 17 commencing at 3pm and the theme for this year’s parade is Teamwork – Everyone’s a winner. The theme reflects the designation of 2012 as the International Year of Co-operatives by the United Nations General Assembly.

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, development, and conservation of all types of forests. Coole Park is running a number of free events to celebrate the year. There will be activities for children as well as a tree walk covering the different plantings from Gregory times to the present day.

World Refugee Day will be celebrated in Galway tomorrow with a series of events taking place in the Galway City Museum from 2pm to 4.30pm
