Monroe’s Late Bar & Music Venue turns 10 years old.
Monroe’s has been a cornerstone in the Westend of Galway City since 1964. Originally, the ‘New Manhattan Bar’, John and Margaret Monroe returned from New York City to open the bar to great excitement as the first Galway bar to have table service, a ‘Ladies Lounge’ and a ‘Singing Lounge’.

Already a well respected and talented musician from his time fronting The Blizzards, Bressie’s debut solo album Colourblind Stereo, released last summer, reached number one in the iTunes Album chart. From the LP he has released three singles including the airplay number one smash ‘Can’t Stay Young Forever’ and the top three hit ‘Good Intentions’.

Mullingar should honour its own - Davitt
In the hope of attracting some positive publicity for Mullingar, a local councillor is proposing the introduction of an annual award to honour a person from Mullingar or its environs who has achieved national or international success.
The Aftermath are back on the road
The Aftermath take a break from recording their sophomore album with a couple of shows across Ireland in June and July. The band have been holed up in their own Transmission Rooms studio for a month with producers Ger McDonnell and Karl Odlum working on the follow up to debut Friendlier Up Here. The first single from these sessions, ‘Lost Possession’, will be released in early August.
Aftermath to go to the next level
Mullingar-based groovesters The Aftermath will step up a level in the pantheon of Irish music this summer when they play at Electric Picnic and the Rose of Tralee festival, and continue with the baton of excellence recently passed on by the dormant Blizzards.
