Environmental and habitats assessments holding up Knock Airport plan
A draft of a local area plan for Ireland West Airport Knock, which Mayo County Council hoped to have ready for the members of the Swinford Electoral Area committee for the November meeting, has been held up. Members of the committee were informed this week by council officials that they were still working on the environmental assessment and the Habitats Directive assessment for the area of the plan. The members were told that the council was doing the work on these assessments in-house, whereas previously it would have been contracted to outside consultants, but they still hoped to have a draft plan ready for the councillors before Christmas.

Extra €580,000 for Swinford area roads
The Swinford electoral area will receive €580,000 worth of the €3.5 million investment in Mayo roads that was announced last week. Paul Dolan of Mayo County Council told a meeting of the Swinford Electoral Area committee this week that two separate projects had been identified in the area. The two roads which will receive the funding are the R322 from Kiltimagh to Kilkelly, which will get €360,000 extra funding, and the L1907 from Urlar towards Kilmovee which has been allocated an extra €220,000.

Lavin hits out at delays on Kiltimagh to Bohola road improvements
Fine Gael councillor Eugene Lavin this week bemoaned the delays that have beset the works on the Kiltimagh to Bohola road. The improvement project, which began 11 years ago, still has not been completed and, despite work being carried out on a stretch of it at present, the works will cease in the near future when the current funding allocation runs out.
