Twenty-year lease approved for Charlestown community childcare facility

Approval was given this week for a 20-year lease on the old Charlestown Health Clinic to Charlestown Community Childcare Ltd.

Paul Benson from Mayo County Council told the members of the Swinford Electoral Area committee that the premises had been leased to Charlestown Community Childcare Ltd four years ago on a short-term lease of four years and nine months and the lease was due to run out in the near future. He went on to tell the meeting that the new lease would be for a period of 20 years and would be for a nominal fee of €100 per year. Mr Benson also went on to state that the lease ensured that the building would be used for childcare only and if this clause was broken the building would revert back to the control of the council immediately.

The members of the committee welcomed the lease, with Charlestown based Cllr Gerry Murray proposing the adoption of the lease and Cllr Eugene Lavin seconding the adoption.
