Approval given to hand over land to Foxford Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre

The Swinford Electoral Area Committee this week gave initial approval for Mayo County Council to give a half-acre site to the Foxford Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre on a 99-year lease for a nominal fee. The patch of land is located on Admiral Browne Road, Foxford beside a portion of land that the council has already given for the construction of a medical centre in the future.

Welcoming the news on behalf of the centre’s committee Cllr Jimmy Maloney read out a letter from the committee where they thanked Mayo County Council for its generous donation of the land and that it would be a great addition to the area and help a number of families dealing with Alzheimers.

Cllr Maloney went on himself to say, “I’d like to thank my friends in the Foxford Development Association for the support they have given this project. I also want to thank the county manager Peter Hynes and a special thanks to Paul Benson [acting director of services] who ran with this idea from the very beginning.” There was full support for the project from all the other members, with councillors Gerry Murray, Joe Mellett and Eugene Lavin all voicing their support.
