Work is set to begin on the Spiddal Sewerage Scheme, a €4 million water infrastructure upgrade to stop raw sewage from being discharged into Galway Bay.

More than €300,000 has been allocated by the Department of Housing to bring sewerage and water provision in the Lorro Gate and Cluain na Cathrach estates in Athenry, up to standard.

Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed a €2m investment from Irish Water to upgrade the wastewater treatment facilities in Monksland noting that the planned works will “help support existing and new businesses in the Monksland area in providing additional local jobs.”
