I know they say as you get older time goes that little bit faster but still it’s extremely hard to get my head around that it’s over a year since Mayo played in New York. Brendan Hession (Mayo AC) has been in great form recently and claimed a clear victory in Claremorris DeCare Dental five mile race in a time of 29:33, with clubmate Patrick Walsh second in a time of 31:01.

The 34th Dublin City Marathon takes place this Bank Holiday Monday. Once again Mayo AC has a strong team entered, 26 in total - 17 men and nine women.
Success in Norway for Mayo athletes
Mayo AC's Michael McNeela took the long road to Norway to run in the Nordmarka Skogsmaraton set entirely in a forest just outside Oslo and finished in an excellent time 3:24:58, Michael ran 3:14:08 in Dublin 2012 and was the recent winner of the Inishbofin half marathon.
Kilmovee 10k turns four on Easter Saturday
The fourth annual Kilmovee 10k Road Race and Walk takes place on Easter Saturday, March 30 starting at 1pm. This popular event attracted over 400 runners, joggers, and walkers last year. It has an AAI permit issued through Mayo AC and is organised by Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA Club. It is a joint fundraiser with Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and Kilmovee Shamrocks. The hospice is the main beneficiary - with €19,000 raised for them in the past three years. This is the first big road race in Mayo this year. Race organiser, John Roddy and his team are busy putting final plans in place for what is expected to be the biggest version of this event to date.
Medal haul for Mayo AC at indoor masters
Following their cross-country success last week in Derry, Mayo AC's versatile masters women, plus a couple of men, competed at the new track in Athlone AIT in the Woodie’s DIY Indoor Masters track and field championships on Saturday last. For two of the women, it was their debut in this annual indoors event. Newport based Pauline Moran has been winning all over the place since joining the club and it was another gold medal display – after her Derrygold last week. She ran in three races, winning silver in the 800 metres and gold in both the 1500 and 3,000. Another debutante was Swinford based Margaret Glavey, who also ran three races in the W60 category and won all three – golds in 800, 1500, and 3,000. Glavey has also been in fine form and medallist at a number of distances on the road in recent years. Ann Murray has been a regular medal winner at these championships and she won gold in the 400 and silver in the 800 metres in the w45 category. Jim Gaughan returned to training in the New Year and competed in the M60 1500 metres where he won silver behind Martin McEvilly (GCH). Also taking place last weekend were the Kilbride 10k in Roscommon and the Enniscorthy 10k in Wexford. In Roscommon, Gerry Galvin was the first Mayo AC runner home finishing in ninth place in a time of 39.27, with Patrick Walsh taking first place in the M40 section in a time of 39.51. Ann Lennon came home in second place overall in the women’s race in a time of 41.04. In Enniscorthy, TJ McHugh in a time of 34.32 was the first Mayo AC runner over the line and finished in 19th place while Catherine Conway finished the women’s race in third place in a time of 36.14.
Ladies shine early in season at Tuam 8k
There were a number of Mayo competitors in the recent Tuam 8km event. There was lots of success for Mayo in the women’s event, with Mary Gleeson coming home in first position in a time of 29.38, just one place further back was her Mayo AC team-mate Colette Tuohy in a time of 30.32. In the women’s over 45 category Chris Gallagher from Mayo AC was first home in 33.41, with Pauline Gallagher claiming the W55 win in a time of 34.41 and Margaret Glavey completing the wins for Mayo AC in the W60. Other Mayo AC/Fit4Life finishers in the women’s event were Joan Walsh (35.16), Ann Fahy (36.35), Laura Heneghan (38.32), and Katie Concannon from Ballyhaunis meet and train (43.03).

Mayo AC had 10 finishers in the Fields of Athenry 10km held in what were described as “less than ideal conditions” on St Stephen's Day. A number of them were among the prizewinners.
