Recent Developments in Employment Law Seminar

The Recent Developments in Employment Law Conference will explore the hot topics of the day for HR practitioners and legal professionals. The law in this area has become complex in recent years and it's a challenge to keep up with all the recent legislative and judicial developments.

This conference offers an excellent opportunity to examine recent and imminent legal changes with acknowledged authorities in employment law. It will be of relevance not only to legal practitioners, but to all involved in human resources, recruitment and dismissal.

Speakers will include , Patrick Walsh, Partner at Philip Lee who will speak on the Workplace Relations Bill. His talk will cover topics such as; A reminder of why the system needed to be reformed in the first place. What’s the legacy of the old system? Number of cases, long waiting lists, inconsistent decisions, costs etc. The changes bill will bring including the abolition of the EAT and the LRC, the expansion of the Labour Court and the creation of a new Adjudication Structure. The focus on the new dispute resolution system that will start work later this year and other changes such as compliance notices and "on the spot" fines. New powers of the District Court to enforce judgements.

Also speaking on the day will be Barry Walsh, Partner at McDowell Purcell who will speak on the topic: Employment Law Aspects of the Digital Workplace.

Barry will address the following topics. Protecting Confidential Information: Bring your own device policies (BYOD ), ownership of LinkedIn contacts, effective confidentiality provisions and restrictive covenants, preventing solicitation of clients using social media. Social Media: Role of social media information in the course of workplace investigations and employee dismissals, preventing cyber-bullying in the workplace. Data Protection: Handling data access requests, monitoring employees' use of telephone, e-mail, and the internet, and the use of CCTV cameras in the workplace.
