Monksland Community Summer Camps

Roscommon Sports Partnership are delighted to announce that the Monksland Community Summer Camps is returning again this year after a very successful camp last year. There is a sports camp and arts and crafts camps, which will run consecutively from June 29 to July 3, beginning at 10am and finishing at 1pm. The camps cater for children aged six-13 years. There is a small cost of €15 for one child, €25 for two, €35 for three for the sports camp.

Gardaí in Athlone are seeking the assistance of the public after a teenage girl was seriously assaulted by a number of youths in the Monksland area of the town on Tuesday evening last week.

Indian community in Athlone celebrates Festival of Lights

Last week the Indian community in and around Athlone celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in Monksland Community Centre. Around 100 people from both the Indian and Irish communities gathered to mark the auspicious occasion. Diwali, which marks the biggest Indian festival is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains all over India and the world. This festival is almost equivalent to Christmas in its importance to the celebrants. The date of Diwali is decided by the lunar calendar, in much the same way as the date for Easter is decided. Every year, Diwali is celebrated on the 14th lunar day when there is no moon, in late October to mid November. Again, like Christmas, it is a very happy occasion for all.

Aíre family addiction support group reopens for new year

The Aíre Family Addiction Support Service is open every Monday morning from10am to 12pm in Monksland Community Centre and every Friday from 10am to 12pm in St Kieran's Community Centre.

Views sought for new County Tourism Strategy

Roscommon County Development Board (CDB) is currently engaged in preparing a new tourism strategy for County Roscommon. As part of this process, extensive consultation is underway across County Roscommon both by means of one-to-one consultations as well as public workshops.
