THE GALWAY Film Fleadh has always supported Irish film, but this year’s festival, which runs from July 10 to 15, features an abundance of new Irish movies, including 13 world premieres, seven European premieres, and seven Irish premieres.

Coyote’s late bar will host the final of Miss Galway 2009 this Sunday at 7pm. The final will see 16 qualifying contestants compete for the title and a chance to represent Galway at the Miss Ireland competition in July. If crowned Miss Ireland, the lucky competitor will then compete at Miss World in November.

The county under 12 boys mixed relay team had a satisfactory trip to Athlone on Saturday. Competing in the Community Games All-Ireland cross-country they finished in third place. The team members were Luke FitzPatrick, Christopher Keane, Morgan Thomas and Dara Keane, all Aughavillar, Shane McGeary, Kilkenny City Harriers and Paul Manning, St Joseph’s.
