The county under 12 boys mixed relay team had a satisfactory trip to Athlone on Saturday. Competing in the Community Games All-Ireland cross-country they finished in third place. The team members were Luke FitzPatrick, Christopher Keane, Morgan Thomas and Dara Keane, all Aughavillar, Shane McGeary, Kilkenny City Harriers and Paul Manning, St Joseph’s.
The Charlesland Sports Complex, Greystones was the venue on Saturday and Sunday for the Leinster combined events and junior and under 23 Track and Field Championships. Kilkenny City Harriers girls Sinead McDonough and Catriona Twomey participated in the Penthatlon on Saturday. After four events Catriona held second place but losing ground in the 800m, her least favoured event, she ended the day in fourth place. Sinead, with a good all-round performance in all five events was rewarded with the gold medal.
On Sunday there were many golden moments. Top of the bill was the performance of Aoife Hickey in the junior hammer event. Aoife set a championship record of 50.4 meters at this event in 2008. Throwing 54.07m on Sunday she not only won the event but established a new record for the event, a new PB for herself. Clubmate, Teresa Conlon won the silver in the hammer and she also had a personal best performance.
Gowran athlete, Lisa Nolan, took home gold when she jumped 9.86 meters to win the junior triple jump.
Eileen In Loughborough
Eileen O’Keeffe continued to show further progress in her recovery when she competed at an international meet in Loughborough. Throwing a season’s best of 67.10 meters won her the silver medal.
