RNLI receives €500 from IUNVA
The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) made donations amounting to €5,000 at the function, to 10 local charities and organisations, and also distributed food hampers valued at €200 each to 10 other charities in the Athlone, Moate, and Clara areas.
Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat station goes live
The RNLI’s 44th lifeboat station in Ireland has officially been put into service and become a declared search and rescue asset on Lough Ree. The new lifeboat station is based at Coosan Point in Athlone. The RNLI will operate a B class Atlantic 75 lifeboat from temporary station facilities with the cost of the set-up estimated to be around €150,000.
Crew members of Achill RNLI honoured at retirement function
Achill RNLI hosted a function in Johnny Pattens, Dereens, recently to honour four crew members who stepped down from lifeboat service – Paddy Kilbane, Cloughmore, Robert Gogan, Dereens, Patrick English, Cashel and Bernard Briody, Polranny. Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM), Tom Honeyman, paid tribute to the four men for their commitment, selfless and generous sacrifice of their free time as RNLI volunteers. Each member received a commemorative plaque and certificate in recognition of services to Achill Island Lifeboat Station. The former LOM, Bob Kingston and the former DLA, Anthony Gielty, made the presentations.
