The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA ) made donations amounting to €5,000 at the function, to 10 local charities and organisations, and also distributed food hampers valued at €200 each to 10 other charities in the Athlone, Moate, and Clara areas.
Lough Ree RNLI Lifeboat operations manager Damien Delaney thanked Jack Veale, president; Michael Curtin, chairman; and the members of IUNVA for their generous donation and also for their ongoing support for the Lough Ree RNLI Lifeboat since its inception.
“We at Lough Ree RNLI are very grateful for all the local support RNLI receives from fellow charity organisations such as IUNVA, both for this donation, and their support for the various fundraising events that we run throughout the year,” Mr Delaney said.
Lough Ree RNLI’s hugely popular table quiz will take place on Thursday January 8, 2015 at 8pm in The Bounty, Athlone. Tables are €40 each and no advance booking is necessary.
The RNLI Lifeboat Service is a charity that saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the coasts and inland in Ireland and the UK. The RNLI operates over 230 lifeboat stations with 43 in Ireland, including the Lough Ree Lifeboat. The RNLI is independent of the Coast Guard and Government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service.
Donations from people and organisations like IUNVA make it possible for RNLI volunteers to continue to provide a rescue service.
