A - Athlone GAA Club celebrated their 125th year in existence. It was an honour for me to be captain 50 years on from the first of the famous six-in-a-row wins. Unfortunately we added no silverware at senior level. Making the knockout stages was progress and hopes are high that we can build on that in 2011. Our u14s won the Feile and u16s won the county title indicating a bright future for the club.

Leinster Leg of FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge looking for entrants

The Leinster leg of the 10th FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge is filling up as the final date for entries fast approaches.  The Leinster final of the competition will be played at Naas Golf Club in Kildare on Friday June 26 and already a host GAA clubs from the province have entered teams in a bid for All-Ireland glory.

Favourable championship draw lifts hopes on both sides of the Shannon

The televised draw for next year’s provincial championship which took place last Thursday was relatively kind to both Westmeath and Roscommon. Westmeath take on the winners of Wicklow and Carlow in a Leinster quarter-final. Louth, Longford or Kildare will provide the semi-final opposition should the Lake County win their opening game.

It’s a big weekend for the footballers of Garrycastle as they travel to Pearse Park, Longford on Sunday to contest the quarter-final of the Leinster club championship. Longford champions Clonguish, backboned by the Barden brothers, provide the opposition.
