Leinster Leg of FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge looking for entrants

The Leinster leg of the 10th FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge is filling up as the final date for entries fast approaches.  The Leinster final of the competition will be played at Naas Golf Club in Kildare on Friday June 26 and already a host GAA clubs from the province have entered teams in a bid for All-Ireland glory.

Hugely popular in Leinster and given the official support of the GAA for the first time this year, the FBD All-Ireland Golf Challenge allows GAA clubs from across Ireland and abroad to compete for an All-Ireland title on a completely level par, without restrictions.  In 2008, teams from across Kilkenny, Westmeath, Wexford, Meath and Louth were all represented as the likes of Westmeath’s Ringtown pitted themselves against GAA big boys Parnell’s of Dublin in a bid to qualify for the All-Ireland final at the exclusive Faithlegg Golf Club, CO Waterford.

In the end, St Brigid’s GAA Club made history when they became the first ever club to win three provincial titles in a row in the FBD All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge.  St Brigid’s completed the course at Royal Tara just one point ahead of second placed St Rynagh’s of Offaly.  Led by former Dublin cornerback Martin Cahill and former Dublin hurler Sean Duignan, St Brigid’s went on to represent the province in the All-Ireland final in Faithlegg in September, where they claimed their second FBD All-Ireland Golf Challenge in impressive style.

There are still competition spaces remaining, but not many.  Closing date for entries is June 12.  To be in with a chance to claim an All-Ireland victory visit www.gaagolf.com and download an application form or call Liam Daniels on (087 ) 274 6271.
