A CONCERT of guitar and cello music, with ConTempo’s Adrian Mantu and John Feeley, takes place in the Druid Lane Theatre tomorrow at 1pm.

MONSTERS AND fairies, poets and singers, heroes and villains will all be part and parcel of the Galway Early Music Festival, which runs from May 9 to 12.

There is a night of classical gold on the cards when ConTempo String Quartet and top Irish guitarist John Feeley perform at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, September 20, at 8pm as part of Galway Music Residency’s 10th year anniversary celebrations.

NUI Galway alumni and friends will celebrate the connection between James Joyce and Galway city with a pre-Bloomsday recital in Newman House, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin on Thursday next 14 June at 7.30pm. The recital is part of a series of Bloomsweek recitals featuring Ireland’s leading classical guitarist, John Feeley, accompanied by NUI Galway graduate and James Joyce enthusiast, Professor Fran O’Rourke of UCD, who will also be providing background information on Joyce.

NEXT WEEKEND sees the latest instalment of Music For Galway’s annual midwinter festival. This year’s offering is entitled Intimate Voices and offers a varied musical programme, ranging from the 17th to the 21st century, as well as a unique combination of artistry involving voice, dance, literature, drama, and visual art, as well as two internationally renowned quartets.

THE GALWAY Music Residency will present Irish guitarist John Feeley at its next lunchtime concert on Tuesday in the Town Hall Theatre. Feeley will be performing a selection of works by J S Bach; Adagio and Fugue from Violin Sonata No 1 in G minor (BWV 1001), Cello Suite No 1 in G major (BWV 1007), and Chaconne in D minor from Partita no 2, (BWV 1004). He will preface the performance with a short talk about the music.

The third Galway Music Residency tour takes place at the end of the month, kicking off with a special pre-concert talk in Rothe House this Wednesday September 28 at 7pm, before the main event at 8pm.

Kilkenny guitarist Michael O’ Toole is bringing his music closer to home this week when he appears at the GB Shaw Theatre in the Visual Link Gallery. This is a unique and intimate environment to enjoy an evening of music for this very special Music Network concert. 

A Variety Concert will take place on Thursday April 14, in the Set Theatre in aid of locally-based African charity, Kilimanjaro Direct.

While Labour TD Michael D Higgins is known as a very fine poet, the Mayor of Galway Cllr Padraig Conneely will be reciting verse and stanza for National Poetry Day.
