Holmes gets indoor season off to the perfect start

Jonathan Holmes, KCH, got his 2011 Indoor Season off to a brilliant start with three sub seven seconds performances at the North England championships at the weekend. Having broken the seven second barrier in heat and semi-final he clocked 6.94 to win a well deserved bronze in the final.

Athletics Ireland team records top results at Celtic Games

This year’s Celtic Games, held on the track at Athlone IT, proved very successful for the Athletics Ireland team. Scoring 169 points they were comfortable overall winners with Scotland finishing in second place on 155 points.

The St Joseph’s club were well represented in the national multi—events Championships held in Tullamore at the weekend. Athletes from the club took part in seven of the events and while amassing high scores in most they claimed medals in four – one gold, two silver and one bronze. In the under 14 pentathlon Paul Manning scored 2,345 points to win the silver medal.

Records set with 31 gold medals at Leinster track and field championships

Once again Kilkenny’s juvenile athletes have done themselves and their county proud. There were in excess of thirty first place finishes by Kilkenny athletes at the Under 13 to Under 19 Leinster Track and Field championships held in Tullamore over the weekend.

Joanne Cuddihy continued her return to form with gold and silver performances down under. Competing in the New Zealand track and field championships in Christchurch at the weekend she took first place in the 400m and second in the 200m. Her times were 52.84 and 24.02 respectively.
