O'Mahony welcomes life-saving organ donations reforms in HSE Service Plan

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, John O’Mahony, has welcomed the measures announced in the HSE Service Plan which will see €3 million per year provided for organ donations. This follows on from, and will make practicable, the legislation proposed by Minister for Health James Reilly which aims to ensure that people have to opt out of donating their organs upon their death, rather than opt in. Deputy O’Mahony has lobbied intensively for the legislation to be introduced and for the funding to back it up. This was alluded to by former Gaelic footballer, Joe Brolly, and his friend Shane Finnegan in their statement welcoming the development which said:

It was a wet and wild Sunday night and a storm was brewing up outside. Inside however, it was a different story, a magical one at that. The final pieces of Cloonliffen’s Magical Christmas Jigsaw were coming together. This was it. This was the first time the whole school had come together to perform a musical as one. Lights at the ready, microphones at the ready, but alas, they had to wait for that last flash of lightning before the annual Cloonliffen show could begin.

Hurlers score for Alzheimer’s Association

Bluebird Care has teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Association in a novel fundraising effort based on the outcome of next Sundays All Ireland Hurling Final. Both the Kilkenny and Tipperary offices of Bluebird Care will donate €10 for every point (including goals) scored in the decider next week with the Alzheimer’s Association benefiting accordingly.

Two men jailed for ‘thuggish behaviour’ at hospital A&E

Two men who caused severe chaos at the Accident and Emergency department of Mayo General Hospital in aggressive incidents which occurred less than a week apart— in which the men were extremely abusive, were forcefully removed by security, and caused criminal damage to the outside glass door of the department, were both jailed by Judge Mary Devins at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for this “thuggish behaviour”.
