GALWAY YOUTH Theatre will stage Brian Friel’s play Loves: Winners and Losers and Dennis Kelly’s Love and Money in the Nuns Island Theatre this July.

Just when you thought Galway could not possibly come up with any more festivals, a new one is launched, and for theatre lovers it is sure to be a welcome one.

IN RECENT years Galway’s theatre scene has witnessed the emergence of a raft of enterprising, talented, new companies such as Moonfish, Mephisto, Zelig and Selkie, who are doing much to carve out a niche for themselves with a series of strong productions.

The inaugural Galway Theatre Festival takes place over five days next week from Wednesday October 22 to Sunday 26 at the Galway Arts Centre’s Nuns Island Theatre.

THE FIRST Galway Theatre Festival got underway last night with Zelig Theatre Co’s premiere of Cathal Cleary’s Birds Birds Birds and continues until Sunday with a lively programme showcasing the best of local theatrical talent.

AN ESSENTIAL part of every Galway Arts Festival is productions from Galway Youth Theatre and the company will present two shows this year.
