Free concert in Castlebar to launch Fáinne Óir
A free concert to officially launch Fáinne Óir - a new and original orchestral music and contemporary dance production by Mayo composer and Musical Director, Kathy Fahey, is to take place on April 28 in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. The complete 90-minute work, which is being co-produced by Ms Fahey with Diaspora Engagement Specialist, Mike Hannon - will premiere in the Royal Theatre Castlebar on September 20, 2019, before travelling to New York where it will be performed at the Symphony Space Theatre on September 26.

A young life remembered at memorial Mass for David Gavin
The Church of the Holy Rosary in Castlebar was packed to capacity on Wednesday for a special Mass of remembrance for David Gavin, the 26-year-old Breaffy footballer who lost his life in a swimming accident in Canada on June 30. The memorial Mass saw prayers offered for David's family and friends and for finding his body so he can be laid to rest at home.
Bonamh Market cancelled as mark of respect to the late Ann Moran
The Bonamh Market and Heritage Day that had been planned to take place this coming Saturday has been cancelled as a mark of respect to the well known Moran family, from Rush Street, Castlebar, following the the death of Ann Moran who died peacefully on Monday. Ann together with her husband John ran the well known Paddy Moran's pub on Rush Street.
Castlebar comes to a standstill as Ben Garrett is laid to rest
Castlebar came to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon and the business community shut their doors as the funeral of Private Ben Garrett, Kilnock, Breaffy, Castlebar, passed through the streets of the town in a military cortege before his burial in the New Cemetery in Castlebar. Private Garrett's body was found last Sunday in Galway following an 18 day search that saw hundreds of people scour the city and its surrounds on a daily basis looking for him after he was reported missing.

Canadian Orpheus Male Choir for Castlebar show
Hosted by the Mayo International Choral Festival, a 50-strong male voice choir from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, will perform on Friday, September 25 with the Mayo Male Voice Choir at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar. This is one of Canada’s leading male voice choirs and have toured extensively, including Canada, Europe, Britain and Ireland and have performed more than 460 concerts in venues such as the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
