A man who escaped from custody in Roscommon Courthouse on Tuesday, and drove away in his car with a garda on the bonnet, before driving through a funeral, a level crossing, and eventually the wrong way up the motorway in Athlone before being apprehended, will appear in Harristown District Court in Castlerea today (July 22).

St Brigid’s hoping to clear final hurdle
These are busy times for all dyed-in-the wool supporters of the green and red of St Brigid’s. Last weekend the ladies team had little difficulty in capturing the senior county title at the expense of Kilglass Gaels. This weekend it’s the men’s turn to try and bring back the coveted Fahey Cup to the parish after a gap of two years. In a few weeks time the intermediate team will also contest their county final. All going well they will be hoping to complete a memorable and surely unique treble for the famous south Roscommon club.

This weekend is a big one for eight teamsfrom both sides of the Shannon as the semi-finals of the Westmeath and Roscommon SFC are down for decision. On the Leinster side Garrycastle and Mullingar Shamrocks will be many people’s idea of the most likely candidates to progress to the county final at the expense of Killucan and The Downs respectively. Across the bridge St Faithleach’s and Elphin will be hoping to upset the odds against their fancied opponents St Brigid’s and Castlerea.
