Mayo on the road to redemption
Getting relegated out of the second tier of the senior inter-county hurling championship would never have been part of the plan for Mayo, but that was what happened last year when a disappointing season ended with them dropping down into the third tier competition for the first time since the new championship gradings were introduced back in 2005. Up until this demotion Mayo had operated in the Christy Ring Cup and held their own for the most part with the sides in that competition.
President to attend Knock concert
The Mayo International Choral Festival have announced that the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins will attend as guests of honour at the Concert For Peace in Knock Basilica on Saturday May 14 which will commemorate the 1916 Rising and World War I. The unprecedented scale of such a concert in this venue will see close to 200 artists perform on the night, all presented by lauded broadcaster, RTÉ Lyric FM’s Liz Nolan. Conductor extraordinaire David Brophy of RTÉ’s award winning High Hopes Choir and instrumental fame brings his impressive experience to proceedings, conducting this special event.
Average private rent was €514 in Mayo in second quarter of 2015
The average rent for all dwellings in the private rented sector in Mayo in quarter two of 2015, and which were registered with the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), was €514. This was up €3 when compared to the average rent in quarter one when the amount was €511, and was up €8 when compared to a year earlier, in quarter two last year.
