This is the time of the year for ‘les bonnes résolutions’. Start the New Year by joining a French class in the pleasant, friendly, environment of the French Institute. The French Institute is Galway’s oldest French school, located in the beautiful and historic Bridge Mills.

When the programme for the 2014 Galway Food Festival was announced earlier this year, the very first item to go on my list was the Venetian Tapas at Il Vicolo on the Taste Trail. Given the subsequent events, it may have taken a little longer than I expected, but all things considered it was worth waiting for.

Ballinasloe-based author Nuala Ní Chonchúir will read from her second novel, The Closet of Savage Mementos, tomorrow at 2pm at the Bridge Mills as part of the Galway Fringe Festival.

The summer programmes at the French Institute in Bridge Mills are set to begin from May 19.

Located in one of Galway's old and beautifully renovated buildings, the Bridge Mills Restaurant is on the banks of the Corrib just across O’Brien’s Bridge. After a 15 year absence it is back in the hands of previous owners Frank and Ellen Heneghan, also of Heneghan Florist, for almost a year now.

The Galway City Museum will host free art classes for adults this coming Tuesday and on Saturday March 2 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

This is the time of the year for resolutions. We are all aware that 2012 will be challenging for businesses as well as on a personal level. In such a context, languages are bound to play a bigger role in the future.

GALWAY IN July is home to two of the biggest festivals in the country - the Galway Film Fleadh and the Galway Arts Festival - but there is a third festival also worth checking out.

VIOLIN MAKER, player, and poet Paul Bradley will give a concert and reading, with singer Alan Burke, in the gallery space at the Bridge Mills on Saturday July 2 at 7pm.
