ARTISTS FROM across Irelandinterested in working with the NUI Galway based CÚRAM art and science programme, as part of its public engagement work, are being invited to submit proposals.

Ireland’s positon as one of the top medtech clusters in the world will be bolstered today (Monday) with the official launch of CÚRAM, the Centre for Research in Medical Devices. CÚRAM is a Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre based at NUI Galway, which is a unique symbiotic relationship of academia and industry partners that pushes the scientific frontiers in medical devices.

Her Excellency Ms Mari Miyoshi, the Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, and Professor Nobuo Ueno, director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science London, visited Galway yesterday to attend the NUI Galway-led ‘Ireland - Japan Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Meeting’ in the Hotel Meyrick, Galway.

The SFI Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) at NUI Galway and the Galway Film Centre have launched a partnership project called ‘Science on Screen’, funded through Science Foundation Ireland’s (SFI) Discover Programme. The Programme aims to facilitate, promote and increase the inclusion of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) content in Irish film and TV production.

The launch of the 18th Galway Science and Technology Festival, part of National Science Week, was hosted by the main sponsor Medtronic in their Customer Innovation Centre, Parkmore on Monday  The 2015 Festival will see 180 events and 35,000 primary and secondary school students take part in shows and workshops from November 9-22. This year’s Festival will explore and celebrate “Science Week 2.0 - Design Your Future” in this International Year of Light at events in schools, colleges, research institutes, companies and community centres across Galway City and County.
