Almost €20,000 in funding distributed to forty two sports and community groups by Mayo Sports Partnership
At a recent Mayo Sports Partnership Board meeting close to €20,000 was allocated to 42 clubs/organisations in Mayo through the Partnerships 2017 special participation grant scheme. Special guest at a recent presentation evening, Minister Michael Ring commended all involved in grassroots sport throughout the county, saying: “Supporting clubs and organisations through this annual small grant scheme by Mayo Sports Partnership recognises the vital role that sport is playing in our communities. Without volunteers sport just would not happen and it is vital that we continue to support them in their hugely important work."
Cycling Ireland Ride Leader Award in Achill
As part of its Achill Goal to Work sports coach training programme Mayo Sports Partnership, in association with Cycling Ireland, is hosting a Ride Leader Award training programme on Saturday, May 20 based in Tonragee Community Centre. The course will run from 9am to 5pm and the Cycling Ireland Ride Leader Award aims to provide leaders with an introduction to cycle leading and the competencies required to lead and manage groups on a cycle.
Mayo Sports Partnership launches annual Sport Investment Scheme
Mayo Sports Partnership is pleased to launch details of its upcoming Special Participation Sports Investment Scheme for 2017. The scheme, supported by Sport Ireland, invites clubs and organizations who have sport/recreation as their central focus to submit proposals which would increase participation amongst target groups such as youth at risk, disadvantaged communities, unemployed, women, travelling community, middle aged men, disabilities and ethnic minorities. This may include setting up of new clubs or additional activities which would increase participation within existing organizations.
Women in sport seminar to take place in Castlebar
Next month, Mayo Sports Partnership in conjunction with a number of other agencies and bodies, will be hosting a Girls and Women in Sport seminar in GMIT Castlebar on Thursday February 9 from 10am to 3pm. The seminar which is free of charge has a stellar line up of guest speakers on the day with Mayo Ladies' star Cora Staunton, RTE's Jacqui Hurley, Dr Aoife Lane from AIT and WGPA, former Cork Ladies' manager Eamonn Ryan, Paralympic swimmer Ellen Keane, and Marie Walsh, former Rose of Tralee, all speaking at the event.
Almost twelve hundred turn out for Operation Transformation walks last weekend
In good weather conditions approximately 1,200 people turned out for the Mayo Operation Transformation walks last Saturday, in Belmullet, Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, and Westport. Some 230 alone participated in the Castlebar Lough Lannagh event which was attended by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, and Caithaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Al McDonnell.
Operation Transformation walks taking place countywide tomorrow
If you are looking to get more active in 2017 and need some support, RTE's Operation Transformation is once again joining forces locally with Mayo Sports Partnership to encourage people to become more physically active in 2017. A number of walks will take place across the country tomorrow January 7 with Mayo walks taking place in Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, and Westport.
