In good weather conditions approximately 1,200 people turned out for the Mayo Operation Transformation walks last Saturday, in Belmullet, Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, and Westport. Some 230 alone participated in the Castlebar Lough Lannagh event which was attended by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, and Caithaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Al McDonnell.
A number of other walks took place in other locations including Achill, Tourmakeady, Kilmovee, however if one took place in your community please let Mayo Sports Partnership know by contacting the office at (094 ) 9047025.
Promoted and co-ordinated through Mayo Sports Partnership all events were co-organised by local partners such as parkruns in Ballina, Castlebar, Erris, and Westport, Kiltimagh Tourism Association, Ballina Athletic Club, Ballyhaunis Sports Network, Claremorris GOA Walking Group, Clare Lake Committee, and Westport Leisure Park. The organisers would like to thank all local sponsors along with all leaders and volunteers who contributed towards making all the events safe and enjoyable.
A 5k fun run/walk in each of the seven locations will take place on Saturday February 18 to coincide with the national 5K event which takes place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. So get on your runners and joint the six week Operation Get Mayo Active Campaign at a location nearest you.
