A €93,000 investment has been awarded to Westmeath to support local heritage projects.
The funding has just been announced by Minister for Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, under the 2018 Structures at Risk Fund and the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018.
Speaking about the allocation, Longford-Westmeath Fine Gael deputy Peter Burke said: “I was delighted to learn that funding totalling €93,000 has been granted to Westmeath key for heritage projects here.
“Through the Structures at Risk Fund, Westmeath will receive a total of €43,000 investment. Separately, Westmeath heritage projects will receive another €50,000 through the Built Heritage Investment Scheme.”
Deputy Burke said the funding will allow for the conservation and repair of protected structures across Westmeath.
“These buildings and structures are so important to our heritage and have key importance to local communities built around them,” he said. “Maintaining and repairing these monuments help communities preserve their cultural identity and give people a sense of pride of place.
“The funding is also very important in terms of developing our tourism offering and helping to attract visitors to Westmeath, with all the benefits that can bring. Westmeath tourism is a growing industry and this investment will contribute to this.”
