Court takes “disorder in a hospital” seriously

A Polish man who was drunk and threatening at Mullingar General Hospital has been given a two month suspended sentence.

Mullingar District Court heard how Gardaí were called to the hospital at 4.10pm on February 27 where staff were having difficulties with Lopaciuch Wojciech, 168 Greenpark Meadows, Mullingar.

Mr Lopaciuch was falling around, was abusive, and very aggressive. Inspector Jarlath Folan said the aggression and abuse continued while he was in custody.

He has eight previous convictions and is currently serving a sentence and is due for release on May 18.

Mr Redmond O’Regan said his client has a very serious problem with alcohol but without it is “perfectly pleasant”.

He could not even remember why he had been in hospital.

Judge Tim Lucey said the court “takes a very serious view of any disorder in a hospital”.

“People are easily frightened by this kind of behaviour in a hospital. It’s not acceptable.”

The sentence will run concurrent to that currently being served.
