Colin Kelly appointed manager of Westmeath footballers

Former Louth manager, Colin Kelly, has been named manager of Westmeath footballers.

The decision was ratified at a meeting of the county board last week.

Kelly replaces Kildare native Tom Cribbin and has been handed a two-year contract.

During his three years at the helm of Louth, Kelly led the county to successive Allianz FL promotions and secured a return to Division Two. He resigned from the position after Louth’s defeat to Longford in the championship.

Some prospective candidates from Westmeath were approached to take on the role, but they declined for various reasons.

It is understood that Kelly will not be bringing any back room staff with him from Louth, but will rather surround himself with a team consisting of people from Westmeath.

Westmeath and Kelly will be aiming to build on landing the Division 4 title last spring
