Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten, has been informed that the development of a new school on the campus of Coláiste Chiaráin Summerhill Athlone is progressing through the planning and design phase within the Department of Education.
This major building is at an advanced stage of architectural planning and will facilitate the new school going to tender.
The new school is being designed to cater for up to 1,000 pupils from south Roscommon and the west side of Athlone.
Minister Naughten, who visited the new school last week, said: “With the new school to be constructed on a 28 acre site, there is ample room for the development of sporting and other facilities, which will not only benefit the pupils of Coláiste Chiaráin but also the wider community.”
