Bower student to receive Naughton Scholarship

Our Lady’s Bower student, Aisling Benson, will be awarded a Naughton Foundation Scholarship later this month at a ceremony in Trinity College, Dublin.

The award, based on her Leaving Cert results and a personal statement, is worth a total of €20,000 towards her third level studies, as well as a grant of €1,000 to the school’s science department.

Aisling has chosen to pursue her studies in science at UCD. While in the Bower, Aisling had an excellent academic record having been selected for the science Olympiad based on her impressive Junior Cert results, before scoring more than 600 points in her Leaving Cert.

She also took advantage of every opportunity to develop all of her talents. She played basketball for her club, school and the Midlands area, won the Nicola Ward trophy for public speaking, and was one of the two students selected to be head girl.

During transition year, she played the lead role in the musical All Shook Up, was a winner in Scifest and BT Young Scientist, and achieved a Gaisce bronze medal and a Jean Paul II silver medal. In senior school she won the award for creative writing and the Grand Prix Français.
