Longford-Westmeath TD and Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Kevin “Boxer” Moran, has backed calls for increases in the State pension in the forthcoming October budget.
Minister Moran said the Government must remain committed to the programme for Partnership Government which states that the State pension must be increased ahead of inflation and to do so every year.
“Pensioners have not had it easy in recent years and it is important that their incomes are protected now that there is a few extra bob in the State’s coffers,” said Minister Moran.
“I support the recent comments from An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar backing this stance. As a Government Minister, I will also be using my position in Government to argue very strongly for all social welfare recipients so that there is due recognition for them in the Budget.”
