Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten, has welcomed a new commercial project which promises hundreds of jobs for Monksland.
It is hoped agreement will be reached within 12 months for one or more companies to be based at the site, creating more than 300 jobs. At least 80 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase.
The modern design positions a seven-wing facility around a central core – a total area of 78,340 square feet with potential to increase to more than 138,000 square feet.
Minister Naughten said there has been keen interest shown already from US and international operators. He added that the facility may also provide an option for UK operators in light of Brexit.
“The site is a key strategic site just off the M6,” Minister Naughten said. “With all the utilities in place combined with a skilled and willing workforce in the heart of the biopharma life sciences sectors in Ireland, it is ideally located.
“I have been working closely with the developer Robert Keane as well as Enterprise Ireland and the IDA on this project. PriMe6 will copper-fasten Monksland and Roscommon as the home of the biopharma life sciences sectors in Ireland and the local workforce as leaders in this field. What is unusual about the cluster of pharmaceutical companies that already exists in this area of the Midlands is that they all work collaboratively with each other and they encourage other companies to come in. I am looking forward to PriMe6 being one of these companies.”
Commercial developer, Robert Keane, said: “It was a pleasure to outline the potential of PriMe6 to Minister Naughten and to highlight the growth opportunities for companies and the local community, from job creation to increased consumer spending in the region. Businesses will be attracted due to the area’s educated and experienced workforce, while the relatively low living costs will appeal to many workers.
“PriMe6 provides the opportunity for stand-alone or collaborative projects in a modern, ideally placed facility that offers a high degree of flexibility, in terms of layout, at a competitive cost. Ireland has a tremendous track record in the life sciences sector, and we’re confident PriMe6 will be another chapter in this success story.”
