Boxer welcomes medical cards for Domiciliary Care Allowance children

Independent TD Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran has welcomed confirmation from Minister of State at the Department of Health, Finian McGrath, that up to 10,000 children in receipt of Domiciliary Care Allowance are to be issued with a medical card, as agreed in last year’s Budget.

The plans will see severely disabled children under the age of 16 given an automatic right to a medical card that will lower prescription charges.

The proposal will give upwards of 10,000 severely disabled children under the age of 16 an automatic right to a medical card. This will be introduced from June 1 with an online pre-registration system to be available a month earlier.

“This news will go some way to making the lives of the children, and those of their carers, that little bit easier as the costs involved in meeting their medical needs will be lessened,” said Deputy Moran.
