Standards award
The car park in Athlone Towncentre operated by Euro Car Parks has been granted a coveted Gold European Standard Parking Award (ESPA ).
These awards are given when a parking facility meets the highest European standard and Euro Car Parks is the first company in Ireland to receive such an honour.
Athlone Town Centre car park was judged on key issues such as entry/exits, lighting, comfort, security, signage, parking areas and ramps and energy and environment.
Keena suggests graffiti mural for under Garrycastle Bridge
Cllr Frankie Keena (FF ) has suggested that the council work in conjunction with local artists to provide a graffiti mural for under the new Garrycastle Bridge along the Greenway.
The idea behind the mural would be to depict and thus promote tourist attractions in Athlone, Cllr Keena said.
Fine Gael councillor, Tom Farrell, said the project could involve local youth groups and give aspiring artists an opportunity to express themselves.
District Engineer Pat Nally said the council will discuss the project with local groups and get ideas for possible images that could be used.
Contractor sought for Arcadia housing development
Westmeath County Council is in the process of recruiting a contractor to construct the 33 social housing units planned for Arcadia.
District Engineer Pat Nally told Monday’s meeting of the Athlone Municipal District that the contractor should be in place in the coming weeks.
The estate, which will be known as Gortnadreas, will comprise 11 two-bedroom units and 22 three- or four-bedroom homes.
The housing development, which was granted Part 8 planning permission back in January, is expected to cost somewhere in the region of €6 million.
