Local school teams excelled at the inaugural National TY Safety Quiz finals held in AIT recently.
The inaugural National TY Schools Safety Table Quiz was organized by the Midland branch of National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO ) and was hosted by AIT.
NISO is a voluntary organisation which has promoted safety in the workplace for more than 50 years. The organisation runs courses on safety nationally, including at AIT, as well as an annual all-Ireland company safety quiz and the all-Ireland safety awards ceremony.
This year the NISO Midland branch initiated a new quiz to promote safety in the workplace among young people - the TY safety table quiz.
A number of teams competed for the trophy and prizes, including Our Lady’s Bower and Moate Community School.
The winning team was from Moate Community School, comprising Cian Fanning, Nathan Farrelly, and Gerard O’Reilly.
The Our Lady’s Bower team of Rebecca Olwill, Catherine O’Neil, and Hannah McManus were runners-up.
The winning team members each received an electronic tablet, a €100 cheque and a trophy, as well as a trophy for their school.
The runner-up team members each received a €50 cheque, a sports voucher and a trophy, and a trophy for their school.
AIT first year design student, Malgorzata (Goshia ) Kosel, was presented with a prize for her design of the NISO TY National Quiz book.
