New Minister of State at the Office of Public Works, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, is planning on visiting the United Kingdom and the Netherlands to get a broader perspective of flood relief schemes in operation there.
The Independent Alliance TD for Longford-Westmeath assumed the role of Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works last Saturday, June 3, and is wasting little time in getting his teeth into the role.
Deputy Moran succeeds his Independent Alliance colleague and Galway East TD, Sean Canney, who has served in this portfolio since May of 2016.
Minister Moran said: “I am delighted to have been appointed by the Taoiseach as Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief. This appointment is one that I find very exciting especially in relation to the area of flood relief.
“I look forward to working with the OPW in ensuring that the Catchment Flood Risk Management Plans are implemented to protect communities from flood risk throughout the country.
“My portfolio also extends to estate management and the conservation and protection of our built heritage and I will put a particular focus on the development of our heritage properties which are pivotal in the enhancement of our tourism capacity and for rural development.”
Independent Alliance Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, welcomed the appointment:
“Following a highly successful year as Minister of State, Sean Canney is tonight handing over to Boxer Moran,” he said. “I wish Boxer equal success in his new role and look forward to working with him to progress the agenda of the Independent Alliance and the Programme for Government.”
